my sweet friend Priti Kamdev Domre.

I'm kind of a blog nerd. Though this is only my 3rd post, I've been reading several blogs for a couple of years now. (There's this whole underground-blogging world that is kind of spooky if you ask me. I'm hoping to jump on the bandwagon and go underground too.) Anyway, two of the blogs (Living Proof Blog & Angie Smith's Blog) that I read have ladies that are on a very crazy and awesome trip with Compassion International to Kalcutta (Calcutta). Their goal is to blog their daily events and encourage people to sponsor these precious little ones.

It worked. We joined. We fell for it, and we're so excited.

Actually, we've been meaning to join the Compassion family for quite sometime. It's just that life got in the way. Yes, that sounded selfish and it was. We've chosen other things instead of sponsoring like new shirts and shoes and eating out. Ridiculous. Reading these blogs and seeing Compassion International in action has caused us to get off of our selfish, American bottoms and help someone in need. Someone who needs something much more than new shoes. Someone who needs shoes. Period. Food. Period. Love. Period. Jesus. Period.

When I opened the Compassion page, her's was the first face that I saw. She won my heart; I love her already. And to top it off her name is Priti.

She's the newest member of the Whitley family. Our first child.

What if?

Me: You should visit our church this Easter.

Friend: I don't like church.

Me: (Shocked at the honesty but appreciating) Tell me why, please.

It was a conversation that was ordained by the One and Only. I knew we would be having lunch together, and I had prayed just for this conversation to take place. It was her words that have had my mind spinning about how important our role is to live out what we know. Not in perfection and without the understanding of grace for our failures, but to understand it's not religion. It's relationship. Relationship with Him. Relationship with others.

What if we have the opportunity to change the way that someone feels about Christians and Christianity?

What if we have the chance to help someone recognize the truth behind what Christ intends for a life in Him?

Without giving too much information about the situation, I can share that this young lady has experienced some things in life in regards to other Christians and her own personal defeat that have turned her off to a life in Him. It was through this ordained conversation that I was able to share a bit of the Lord. I was able to share a bit of who Christ is and what He might have for her through these times. It tears at my heart to think that at this moment I had the "right" words and took advantage of the opportunity, but what about the moments when I've been on the other side, the side that has turned someone off to a life in Him? A time when my actions have done anything but reflect the nature of His infinite grace and love.

The Lord encouraged me and humbled me through this conversation. He reminded me of how He places me (us) in the lives of people for "such a time as this." It's our opportunity to possibly refute all the negatives and change some one's opinion. Change their opinion of Him. Open their eyes to the truth of an abundant life.

Lord, please help me to live for you and listen closely to Your Spirit. Please let me be the person that you've called me to be. Please use me in spite of my failures.

It's a blog!

What do you say when you are starting a blog for no obvious reason? We're not having a kid. We don't have a huge prayer need. We don't have a photography business or any business for that matter. It's a blog just about random life events. That's all. When you google why people start blogs, you can find an article about why your blog is crummy. Here are a few of them and my thoughts:

  • Poor hosting. What the heck does this even mean?
  • Using a really bad theme. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or the person (aka: me) that randomly chooses a theme from some free blogger site. Whatever!
  • Not emphasizing your best content. Really? It's for fun and not for a publishing company.
  • Blogging about blogging. [Clearing of Throat]
  • Weak titles. Who knows what the future holds?
  • Ignoring grammar and spelling. I may or MAY NOT have this ONE down thanks to this oh-so-wonderful career of mine, and the fact that I tell 8th graders all day what a verb is, even though they argue that every sentence doesn't have to have one. (It's sad and true!)
  • Not getting the proper training. My favorite! Um, could someone please tell me where this training is given? It took me about 30 tries and three days to even get the template changed. I really do want to be more knowledgeable, but all of this unexplainable language in the computer world doesn't quite make any sense (XML, HTML, <>, Widgets). Geek squad to the rescue!

All that to say that I'll do this for fun. I'll post for randomness. Then, someday when we have a real reason to have a blog, I'll be a pro!
